India’s U-17 World Cup hero Dheeraj Singh has opted not to sign a contract extension with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Goal can confirm. The player has also received an offer from English League One club Blackburn Rovers wherein he shall train for a minimum period of three months.
Dheeraj is undoubtedly one of the most promising players in India at the moment and it will be in the AIFF's best interest to help him gain all the exposure he can get, which will, in turn, help him realize his potential.
The 17-year-old goalkeeper from Manipur has an existing contract with the AIFF that runs until the end of the year. Interestingly, based on his current contract with them, AIFF has registered the player for I-League with the Indian Arrows squad coached by Luis Norton de Matos.
After his contract runs out, clubs interested in the signature of the young goalkeeper will have to get a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the football federation.
