Biren’s message comes at a time when hordes of civil bodies and the opposition, fearing that the state’s territory might be carved as a fallout of the Centre-NSCN (IM) talks, have stepped up their demand to reveal the contents of the framework agreement signed between the two parties.

During a BJP rally at Langing in Imphal West in the run-up to the last state assembly polls, Modi had assured that Manipur’s territorial integrity would be preserved. On Saturday, an all-party meeting chaired by the CM resolved to urge the Centre to safeguard Manipur’s territory and oneness.

Addressing the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day) observance to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Imphal, the CM, considering the multi-ethnic communities in the state, said people need to learn to share. Instead of blaming each other, efforts should be made to bring unity and maintaining harmony, the CM said.

Stating that various developmental works will be taken up by his government after the seasonal rains stop, Biren sought cooperation from all concerned officials. Considering the short working season in the state, Biren asked all officials to work overtime when the weather permits.

Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar Singh spoke of Indira Gandhi as a strong leader who had the guts to adopt a hard decision when there were possibilities of disturbance to national integrity.

“Punjab could have been separated from India had the late Prime Minister not taken the decision to drive out militants from the Golden Temple,” said Joykumar. The deputy CM urged people to take responsibility to protect the integrity of the nation and the state with similar vigour.
